THE HISTORY OF CHÂTEAU DE LIONNE

In the heart of Graves just a few kilometers away from the Garonne, lies the municipality of Illats. It is here you will find the beautiful Château de Lionne.

It was in 2007, that Véronique Smati obtained the 37 hectares property. She provides the vineyard with the most attentive care in order to carry on its history and to respect the land she has been blessed with.

Véronique Smati and her quality team along with oenologist Grégory Dalla Lionga (taught by Denis Dubourdieu) are doing outstanding work to bottle the wonderful terroir of Graves AOP.

At Château de Lionne, we care about the environment and high-quality products therefore our vineyard management is conducted in a way to show the deepest respect for our terroir. We respect the quintessence of the grapes, our consumers and our beautiful terroir.

Since 2019, le Château de Lionne is certified HEV 3 (High Environmental Value), which allows us to recognize and highlight our less conventional and more environmentally friendly viticulture.

This certification justifies in the most beautiful way the transformation of the agricultural practices, towards a better consideration of the environment, beyond the only question of the pesticides, and for an optimal quality of our wines.

THE GRAVES

The Graves terroir history is closely linked to the birth of the Garonne river and to its modifications over time, it is the only wine in France, bearing the name of its terroir.

Our soil is made up, as its name indicates, of gravel, pebbles and sand that composed a soil composed of limestone and clay. This rocky soil has a role of thermal regulator, its favor the solar absorption and reflexion and contributes to a better maturation of the grapes.

The climate in the Graves region is mild and temperate due to its proximity to the Garonne River and the Atlantic Ocean and thanks to the protection of the Landes forest from the west winds.

VÉRONIQUE SMATI

Château de Lionne, with its revealing and symbolic name, offers fine wines with character, just like Véronique Smati.

Since her arrival at the Château in 2007, Véronique has taken over the vineyard from A to Z with the objective of offering high-quality, fruity and fresh Graves wines.

Innovation, creativity and respect for the vineyard and the terroir of Graves are at the heart of her philosophy.
